An Alexander Crescenti (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) goal just 28 seconds into the game set the tone for the afternoon as the Augustana men's lacrosse team pummeled the Yellow Jackets from Defiance by a count of 23-1 on Saturday, March 29th at Thorson-Lucken Field.

Head coach Kyle Hart's crew outshot the visitors 52-0 in the first half and 79-6 over the four period span. Augustana saw 11 different players record a goal on the afternoon in combination with 18 assists from 12 of the Vikings.

Kyle Doner (Peak-to-Peak HS, Erie, Colo.) came one point shy of tying the school record of 10 in a single game set by teammate Andrew Miller (Waukesha North HS, Waukesha, Wis.) in a contest earlier this season against Dubuque. Doner finished the game with six goals and three assists and four of his goals were scored in the Vikings' 12-goal opening period. Augustana scored another half dozen times before intermission for an 18-0 lead. Hart's team found the back of the net five more times in the third period before being iced during the final period.

Other Vikings to contribute multiple times to the 23 straight goals were Miller with four tallies, Crescenti with a trio, along with Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.)  and Jesse Nagelberg (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) who each found the net twice. Doug Barrie (Lake Forest HS, Lake Forest, Ill.), Jonathan Bryk (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.), Chris Hager (Exeter HS, Newfields, N.H.), Vincent Giglierano (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.), Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.), and Brady Welvaert (Holmen HS, Holmen, Wis.) each tallied a score in the game.

Augustana's Barrie, Bryk, Hager, and Austin Marrison (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) each had a pair of assists in the match while Davis, Giglierano, Hawkins, Miller, Brad Anderson (Arrowhead HS, Hartland, Wis.), Jon Herdler (Webster Groves HS, Webster Groves, Mo.), and JP Palasek (Montini Catholic HS, Wheaton, Ill.) all added one.

Cody Burgdorff (Peak-to-Peak HS, Lafayette, Colo.) played 26:31 to begin the contest and receive the victory in the net for Augustana. Burgdorff did not face a shot in the match. Jack Peters (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) closed out the first half in goal and also did not face any shots. Jon Pape (Hoffman Estates HS, Hoffman Estates, Ill.) played all 30 second half minutes and recorded two saves while allowing the lone Yellow Jacket goal. The Defiance counter-part in goal, Tylor Grandidier, recorded 21 saves.

Hart's bunch gathered 53 ground balls in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference contest as opposed to 17 by Defiance. The turnover margin was a bit closer with 31 turnovers by the Yellow Jackets and just 14 by the hosts.

Augustana moved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in MLC play while Defiance fell to 0-8 and 0-3 in conference action for the season.

Next up for the Vikings is a trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for another MLC contest against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start on Wednesday, April 2nd.  Augustana is 2-0 all-time against MSOE by a margin of 23-2 last season and 15-0 in 2012. MSOE is currently 0-5 on the year and 0-4 in conference play and will host Alma before the Vikings visit.
