A goal by Joey Ely of Mount St. Joseph with 3:00 left on the clock in regulation put the Lions ahead 14-11 over the Augustana men's lacrosse team on Sunday, March 23rd in Cincinnati, Ohio. With 1:13 on the clock goalkeeper Cody Burgdorff (Peak-to-Peak HS, Lafayette, Colo.) picked up a ground ball and three seconds later the Vikings were down by two after an unassisted goal by Alexander Crescenti (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.). As time was winding down Tim Fennelly (Littleton HS, Centennial, Colo.) found the back of the net with just 25 seconds left to put Kyle Hart's squad within one. Burgdorff picked up a loose ball with only :08 remaining and with just one tick left on the clock Kevin Gleason (Loyola Academy, Chicago, Ill.) put away his sixth goal of the afternoon to send the game into overtime.

A Burgdorff save with 3:04 remaining in the third overtime was the start to a successful clear attempt and the eventual game-winning goal by Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.) that was assisted by Jesse Nagelberg (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.).

Augustana led early with a 4-1 lead after the first stanza. Hart's team went up 5-1 early in the second quarter but soon allowed six unanswered goals to go down 7-5 before Gleason capitalized on a man-up opportunity to put the blue and gold within one. The Lions scored three more unanswered goals and went up 10-6 just over half way through the third quarter. In the final quarter the teams traded goals early but eventually the Vikings outscored Mount St. Joseph 6-2 to even things out at 14.

Gleason led all scorers with six goals while Davis finished with three, including the game-winner. Fennelly and Nagelberg added a pair of goals apiece along with Crescenti and Mike McAleer (Downers Grove South HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.) adding a score each.

Colin Haley (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) assisted four goals on the day, one in each period of regulation. Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) and Fennelly each tallied two assists while Gleason, Davis, and Nagelberg all registered one.

Burgdorff recorded 11 saves on the afternoon while facing 38 shots and moved to 3-3 on the year. Burgdorff's counterpart saved 17 of Augustana's 50 shots.

The Lions were dominant in the faceoff column winning 24 of 35 faceoffs against the Vikings. Mount St. Joseph also recorded the same number of turnovers on the afternoon (24) while Hart's squad gave the ball up a total of eight times. Augustana was successful on 24 of its 25 clear attempts.

Augustana moved to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in Midwest Lacrosse Conference play with the win over Mount St. Joseph. Next up for the Vikings is a trip to Beloit for a non-conference contest. This will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
