DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team recorded a second straight win by disposing of Loras College 8-7 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Benedictine scored the first six goals of the contest but had to hang on late for the decision, keeping the squad alive in the race for the MWLC Tournament. Gaby Rowe opened the scoring on the first trip up the field, finding the back of the net with 29:11 to play in the first.
Samantha Link scored on a free position attempt with 27:43 to extend the lead.
Becca Gullett and Link added goals moments later as Benedictine led 4-0 with 24:42 left in the first. The Eagles held a 6-2 halftime advantage.
Loras scored the first two goals of the second half as part of a four-goal run, closing within 6-4.
Jasmine Moreno broke up the run by scoring with 16:57 to go on a free position shot. Loras tallied two more to battle within 7-6 and scored with just over four minutes left to again fight within a goal.
Link scored three goals with Gullett and Moreno each scoring two. Each team totaled 26 groundballs.
Lauryn Ligocki scooped five to pace Benedictine.
Hannah Smith posted 10 saves in goal as Loras held a 22-18 advantage in shots.
Benedictine (3-11, 2-3 MWLC) plays at Aurora on Wednesday afternoon.
