MLC Report (Week 1) - Defending Champ Aurora Opens Season with Win

WAUKESHA, WI - The Aurora men's lacrosse team kicked off the 2015 season with a win at home over Illlinois Wesleyan.  The defending champion Spartans earned a 16-10 win over the visiting Titans on a blustery Friday afternoon.

Offensively, freshman attacker Trevor McNamara (Holland, Mich./Grand Haven) led the Spartans, scoring a team-high four goals with two assists and three ground balls. 

Senior midfielder Max Obriecht (Naperville, Ill./North) anchored the Spartans defensive effort. The senior finished the contest with 19 ground balls and was 18-of-22 on face-offs. 

Aurora (1-0, 0-0 MLC) will face Albion and Adrian in non-conference action this weekend.

In other action...

Benedictine University (1-0, 0-0 MLC) kicked off the season with a 20-1 win over Calvin. Freshman attacker Corbin Gett (Northfield, Minn./H.S.) scored three goals, on three shot attempts, and added a school-record seven assists in his first collegiate contest. Gett's 10 point effort ranks second all-time on the Benedictine men's lacrosse single game record list. 

Cornell College was also victorious in its first game of the season.  The Rams (1-0, 0-0 MLC) were dominant in defeating Dubuque 19-3 at home. Freshman Carlos Siguenza (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) led the way with four goals, three assists, and eight ground balls.
