MLC Report (Week 6) - Aurora Opens MLC Action 2-0

WAUKESHA, WI - The Aurora University men's lacrosse team opened their MLC schedule with a pair of league wins during the week.  The Spartans (5-6, 2-0 MLC) beat MSOE and Fontbonne in conference contests and dropped a 12-8 decision to Whittier.

Senior midfielder Max Obriecht (Naperville, Ill./North) led the Spartans during the three matches. The senior scored two goals with four assists and added eight ground balls in a 22-5 MLC win over MSOE and added one goal with one assist and four ground balls in a 23-6 conference win over Fontbonne. 

Obriecht added three goals, one assist, and five ground balls in a 12-8 non-conference loss to Whittier. 

For the week, the senior scored six goals with six assists and 17 ground balls, while finishing 21-of-31 on face-offs. 

Aurora will face Beloit in a conference contest Wednesday and will host Carthage in a non-league affair Saturday.

In other action...

Benedictine University (7-2, 2-0 MLC) stretched its win streak to five-straight following wins over Cornell College and Southwestern (TX). Junior defense Jamic Adkins (Bend, Ore./H.S.) anchored a Benedictine defense that allowed only nine goals in the two wins. Adkins caused four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls in a 16-4 league win over Cornell and added two caused turnovers and two ground balls in a 13-5 win over Southwestern (TX). 

Concordia University (5-3, 1-0 MLC) saw its win streak reach four in a row after claiming wins over Beloit and Whittier. The Falcons defense starred in an 8-1 win over Beloit as Christopher Grenz (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) scooped up four ground balls with three caused turnovers.  The Falcons also beat Whittier 8-7 in non-conference play as David Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn./H.S.) netted the game-winner with only three seconds remaining.

MSOE (3-5, 1-2 MLC) finished the week with a 1-2 record.  The Raiders fell to Aurora and Alma while posting a 20-7 win at Franciscan. Senior Brent Finnegan (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray) led MSOE with four goals and three assists in the win.

Cornell College (2-5, 0-1 MLC) snapped a five-match losing streak with a 15-6 win over Calvin Saturday.  The Rams received three goals, two assists, and 13 ground balls from Carlos Siguenza (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) against the Knights.
