MLC Report (Week 9) - MLC Schedule Heads into Final Week

WAUKESHA, WI - The regular season MLC title is still up for grabs as the schedule heads to the final week.  Aurora and Benedictine each sit at 5-0 in league play and will square off Thursday night with the regular season title on the line.

The Spartans (10-7, 5-0 MLC) stayed perfect in league play with a 14-8 win over Concordia last Wednesday.  In the win, Max Obriecht (Naperville, Ill./North) scored five goals with six ground balls to lead AU.

Benedictine (11-3, 5-0 MLC) kept pace with Aurora, registering a 15-6 win on the road over MSOE.  Junior attacker Blake Keenan (Schaumburg, Ill./H.S.) scored three goals with one assist, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the win over the Raiders.

Aurora will play host to Benedictine with the title on the line Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM.

In other action...

Concordia University (8-6, 3-2 MLC) earned a split during the week and locked up the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MLC tournament.  The Falcons fell to Aurora 14-8 and blanked Dallas 23-0. CUW had 12 different players score in the win over Dallas.  Concordia will close the regular season at Cornell College Saturday at 2:00 PM.

Beloit College (5-6, 3-3 MLC) ran its win streak to three-straight and secured the No. 4 seed in the MLC tourney field.  The Bucs beat Fontbonne 21-7 and Dubuque 22-2 during the week of play. Junior attacker Aidan Whinnery (Middleton, Wis./H.S.) scored seven goals with five assists, one ground ball, and one caused turnover against Fontbonne and added three goals, one assist, and two ground balls in the win over Dubuque.

Cornell College (3-8, 1-3 MLC) earned the school's first ever conference win, posting a 16-8 triumph over Fontbonne Saturday.  Freshman Conor Hollowell (Portland, Ore./Beaverton) scored six goals with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win over the Griffins. The Rams will close the season at home against MSOE and Concordia this week.

The upcoming MLC tournament will begin with semifinal action at high seed sites on Wednesday, April 29.  The MLC tournament championship match will be held at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 2.
