Aurora Wins Fifth Straight MLC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. -- The Aurora University men's lacrosse team traveled to and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 14-6 in the 2017 Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament Championship. The win is the fifth straight for the Spartans in the MLC Tournament and avenged one of the two losses on the season for AU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU did let a slow start happen in this game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter. 2:01 into the game, Will Bradshaw got the scoring started with an assist from Trevor McNamara.
- McNamara (Bailey Smith assist) and JK Torres added the next two AU goals.
- CUW answered with a pair of goals and with just under three minutes to play, AU led 3-2.
- Just before the end of the first quarter, Ben Arends scored from McNamara and AU led 4-2.
- A pair of Joey Lucchesi, including one on a man-up, pushed the AU lead to 6-2 midway through the second.
- In the final half of the second quarter, the teams traded two goals each with AU scores coming from Jason Koziol and Matt Sammarco.
- Heading to halftime, AU led 8-4.
- The Spartans dominated the third quarter, scoring four unanswered and taking control of the game 12-4. AU got goals from Ben Arends, Joe Ebel and two from Jason Koziol.
- CUW scored two goals in the fourth to cut the AU lead to 12-6 but the Spartans locked down defensively and scored a pair to round out the scoring.
- Nick Glaser and Trevor McNamara scored the goals and AU was victorious 14-6

BEYOND THE BOX
- AU captured the program's fifth consecutive MLC Tournament title in seven seasons of play.
- The Spartans advance to their fifth consecutive NCAA Division III Championships.
- AU set a new single-season record for wins with their 18th (18-2).

FOR THE SPARTANS
Jason Koziol had three goals and one assist.
Trevor McNamara had two goals and four assists.
Matt Smidlein had 14 ground balls and was 20-of-24 on face-offs.
Joey Lucchesi had two goals
Ben Arends had two goals.
Tyler Lombardi had seven saves in the winning effort.
