AURORA, Ill. -- Aurora University announced the hiring of Reid Mayberry as the next head coach of the Spartan men's lacrosse program. Mayberry becomes the third coach in program history as the Spartans enter the ninth season of competition.

In the first eight seasons of the men's lacrosse program at AU, the Spartans have posted a 124-34 overall record with six consecutive Midwest Lacrosse Conference Championships and six straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

"Being able to bring aboard a coach with the lineage of Reid Mayberry is an exciting day for AU men's lacrosse and our department," said Director of Athletics Jim Hamad. "The bar is set very high because of our continued success and under Reid the goals for the program remain the same. We firmly believe that under his leadership AU men's lacrosse will meet and even exceed expectations."

Mayberry comes to AU and assumes the Spartans head coaching role after spending the last two seasons at MLC foe Marian University where he built the program from the ground up. His coaching background has a strong tie to AU men's lacrosse as Mayberry spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Spartans first Head Coach, Brendan Dawson at Widener University.

"I am both honored and deeply grateful for this opportunity. I would like to thank Dr. Sherrick, Dr. de Lacey and Jim Hamad for the incredible privilege to lead the Aurora University Men's Lacrosse program," said Mayberry. "Aurora University has an extremely bright future, I cannot wait to get to work developing relationships with AU alumni, current student-athletes and their families. I would not be in this position without the amazing support of my wife and family, along with my former coaches and mentors Brendan Dawson and Bill Pilat."

In his one season of competition at Marian, Mayberry's team went 5-12 overall and 2-7 in the MLC. While at Widener from 2013 to 2016, Mayberry helped guide the Pride to three Commonwealth Conference Tournament appearances and in his three seasons with the program the Pride amassed a 19-5 conference record. He coached two USILA All-Americans, 20 all MAC-Commonwealth Conferences players, a Conference Rookie of the Year, and a North-South Game participant.

Mayberry began his coaching career in 2013 as a volunteer assistant coach at Roanoke College, assisting in the day-to-day planning for the team, practices and team workouts. He worked primarily with the offense, was the man-up coach and ran the substitution box.

As a student-athlete, Mayberry competed three seasons for Roanoke and was picked third team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference as a senior in 2012. He played one season at Salisbury University alongside previous AU Head Coach Kylor Berkman and was a member of the Salisbury 2008 National Championship team.

Mayberry earned a bachelor's degree in health and human performance from Roanoke College and a master's degree in educational foundations from Widener University.
