MINNEAPOLIS— Cornell College's Kyle Jussila and the University of Dubuque's Sam Todd both earned Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) offensive player of the week honors, while Lake Forest College's Conor Murphy received defensive player of the week honors, for events April 24-30, as selected by the league's head coaches.
Jussila (Fifth year; Elk River, Minn.) scored seven goals and four assists for 11 points in Saturday's 17-7 win over Monmouth.
"Kyle was aggressive in all aspects of the game, not just on the offensive half," said head coach Lane Zierten. "His points speak for themselves in his offensive performance, yet he added two caused turnovers and nine ground balls to help us in the ride to earn possessions back. He left his imprint on the game."
Todd (Sophomore; St. Louis) scored seven goals and three assists for 10 points in the two games last week for the Spartans.
"Sam had a huge week as he had three goals and three assists against Edgewood and added another four goals against Northland," said head coach Kasey Burst. "To me, what was most impressive was he committed zero turnovers in two games."
Murphy (Sophomore; Springfield, Mass.) had 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers in Saturday's 11-3 win over Northwestern.
"Conor recorded 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers while holding his individual matchup, Northwestern's leading scorer, scoreless through 58 minutes," said head coach Phil Dodson. "He continues to be a big part of the ride this week holding UNW to 50% clearing and team defense that allowed just seven shots on goal on the week."
This is the fourth career MLC honor for Jussila, and first this season. This is the fourth overall for Murphy and second this season. This marks the first career honor for Todd.
The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
