Lake Forest falls to John Carroll in NCAA Tournament

University Heights, Ohio--The Forester men's lacrosse team was defeated 23-2 at John Carroll University on Wednesday in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Both of Lake Forest's goals came from freshman Ryan Dousevicz, who took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the second quarter and netted his 22nd of the year early in the fourth. Sophomore Chas Dean assisted on the second score.

At the other end of the field, Forester sophomore goalie Andrew Widlar made a season-high 15 saves. Classmate Jack Gillard and freshman Simon Colby each caused three turnovers and Gillard added five ground balls, one fewer than the team-high total posted by freshman faceoff specialist John O'Reilly.

The Blue Streaks scored four times in the first four minutes and were ahead 11-0 after the opening quarter. The score was 14-1 at halftime and 18-1 going into the fourth.

The Foresters finished the season with a record of 13-5 and, despite Wednesday's outcome, outscored opponents 241-178. They were making the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the regular season Midwest Lacrosse Conference title and winning the MLC Tournament with 10-9 come-from-behind victory over the University of Dubuque on Saturday.

John Carroll is now 15-2 and advances to a second round match-up at Dickinson College on Saturday.
