Dubuque sweeps MLC men’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Dubuque's Sam Todd and Quentin Evans were named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) men's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events February 19-25, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Todd (St. Louis, Mo.) scored seven goals and added five assists over the two games on the week for the Spartans. He had four goals and three assists in Wednesday's home opener 17-6 win against Edgewood. In Saturday's narrow loss to Aurora, "Sam helped lead our comeback by scoring two goals in the fourth quarter including our last goal with 10 seconds left in the game," said head coach Kasey Burst. "He put us in a position to try to go into overtime where we scored three goals in the last 90 seconds to try to tie the game."

Evans (Forest Lake, Minn.) had 10 ground balls, one caused turnover and added one goal on two shots over the two games on the week. He had four ground balls against Edgewood. "He came up huge against Aurora with six ground balls, one caused turnover, and one goal in transition that helped spark our comeback," said Burst. "He was consistently shutting down the Spartans' top dodgers all game."

This is Todd's second career MLC weekly honor and first for Evans.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
