Lake Forest sweeps MLC men’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's Macklin Thomas and Andrew Widlar were named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) men's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events February 26-March 3, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Thomas scored eight goals and added an assist over the two games on the week. "He followed up his three goal performance Wednesday with a five goal and one assist day Saturday, which included the game winner in overtime against Hope," said head coach Phil Dodson.

Widlar (Middlebury, Conn.) allowed just eight goals in both games on the week for the Foresters. Lake Forest moved to 3-0 on the year with victories over Illinois Tech (19-11) and an overtime win over Hope (9-8). "THe more impressive of the two performances being Saturday's overtime win over Hope," said Dodson. "He saved 18 shots in that contest alone."

This is Thomas' first career MLC weekly honor and second for Widlar.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
