Gaston, Doyle earn MLC men’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's Trip Gaston and the University of Dubuque's Ryan Doyle were named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) men's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events April 1-7, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Gaston (Charlotte, N.C.) had six goals and one assist in Saturday's MLC opener against Northwestern-St. Paul. "His shooting was a spark for our offense as we continue to work against zone defenses this season," said head coach Phil Dodson.

Doyle (Brighton, Mich.) had 14 ground balls and seven caused turnovers over the two wins for the Spartans. "Ryan had a solid week," said head coach Kasey Burst. "He had nine ground balls and four caused turnovers in our game against Illinois Wesleyan. He added another five ground balls and three caused turnovers in our game against Northland where he was covering their top offensive player and held him to zero points on the day."

This is the first career MLC weekly honor for Gaston and 11th for Doyle.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
