WAUKESHA, WI -- Augustana was picked to
win the 2014 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) title
according to the preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday.
The Vikings (17-4, 8-0 MWLC) placed first in the poll with
111 points, including 10 first place votes. Augustana earned the
MWLC regular season and tournament crowns in its first year as a
conference member last spring.
Carthage (11-7, 6-2 MWLC) placed second in the poll with 94
points after earning a spot in the MWLC tournament last
season.
North Central (12-5, 7-1 MWLC) (93 points) and Concordia
(Wis.) (7-8, 5-3 MWLC) (79 points) placed third and fourth
respectively after earning a spot in the MWLC tournament a year
ago.
Mount St. Joseph (7-6, 4-4 MWLC) was fifth with 78 points,
while Beloit (4-7, 2-6 MWLC) was sixth with 64 points and one first
place vote.
Aurora (5-10, 3-5 MWLC) (59 points), Fontbonne (2-9, 1-7
MWLC) (46 points) and Benedictine (1-11, 0- 8 MWLC) (41 points)
finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
Loras (35 points) and Dubuque (26 points) enter the poll at 10th and 11th as both teams enter their inaugural season.
The 2014 season opens on February 22. The MWLC portion of the schedule will begin on March 8 with the MWLC Tournament slated for May 2-3.
