Augustana Wins Second-Consecutive MWLC Tournament Crown

ROCK ISLAND, IL – After winning a second-straight regular season title in 2014, Augustana claimed its second-consecutive Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Tournament title with a 17-11 win over Carthage Saturday night.

With the win, the Vikings (18-0, 10-0 MWLC) earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Chamionship. The full field will be announced on Sunday, May 4 at 9:30PM (EST) via NCAA.com.

The No. 1 seeded Vikings advanced to the title game with a 16-9 victory over fourth-seed North Central on Friday. In the other semifinal match, the Lady Reds (11-7, 8-2 MWLC) defeated three-seed Concordia (Wis.) 15-14 in three overtimes.

In Saturday's championship, junior attack Hilary Kargl (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) scored five goals with three assists, and three ground balls and junior midfielder Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) added five goals and an assist to lead Augustana.  Carthage received four goals from senior attack Anna Schweiss (Parker, Colo./Chaparral) in the loss.

This was Augustana's second appearance in the tournament final while Carthage made its third appearance in the championship match.
