WAUKESHA, WI -- Concordia (Wis.) was
picked to win the 2015 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC)
title according to the preseason coaches' poll released
Wednesday.
The Falcons (12-5, 8-2 MWLC) placed first in the poll with 57
points, including seven first place votes. Concordia finished in a
three-way tie for second in the MWLC standings last spring and
ended its season with a 15-14 triple-overtime loss to Carthage in
the MWLC tournament semifinals.
Beloit (10-7, 6-4 MWLC) finished second in the poll with 47
points and the final first place vote, while Aurora (4-11, 3-7
MWLC) also tallied 47 points. Both the Bucs and Spartans
missed the MWLC tournament last spring.
Benedictine (4-12, 3-7 MWLC) placed fourth in the poll,
earning a total of 39 points, while Loras (3-16, 2-8 MWLC) claimed
the fifth spot (35 points).
Illinois Institute of Technology (0-11) was sixth with 25
points as the Scarlet Hawks enter the conference for their
inaugural season.
Cornell (20 points) and Wartburg (18 points) enter the poll at seventh and eighth as both teams enter their first season of varsity competition.
The 2015 season opens on February 21. The MWLC portion of the schedule will begin on March 14 with the MWLC Tournament slated for May 1-2.
