WAUKESHA, WI - The Wartburg women's lacrosse team found the win column for the first time in program history, opening the conference schedule with a 9-3 win over Cornell College. The Knights (1-4, 1-0 MWLC) snapped a four match losing streak to start the season with the win over the Rams (0-4, 0-1 MWLC).
Junior Megan Howe (Monona, Iowa/MFL MarMac) led the Knights offense in the win, scoring a team-high four goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Karolina Paulsen (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) led the Knights defense against Cornell, racking up 18 saves in the win.
Wartburg will return to action at home against North Central at 1:00 PM Sunday.
In other action...
Concordia University (1-1, 0-0 MWLC) opened the season with a split last week. The Falcons beat Carroll University 21-1 in the opener and ended the week with a 12-11 loss at home to DePauw. Senior Steph Barry (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) scored three goals with an assist and four ground balls in the season opening win over Carroll.
Illinois Tech (1-2, 0-0 MWLC) earned the program's first ever win, beating Defiance 10-9 last Wednesday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks received four goals, four ground balls, and three draw controls from senior midfielder Florencia Carrerou (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Seminario) in the win over the Yellow Jackets.
