MWLC Report (Week 5) - Aurora Earns Wins Over Elmhurst & Illinois Tech

WAUKESHA, WI - Aurora ended a three game losing streak to start the season with wins over Elmhurst and Illinois Tech last week.  The Spartans (2-3, 1-0 MWLC) pulled out an 11-3 win at Elmhurst and returned home for a 20-6 win over Illinois Tech in the conference opener for both squads.

Freshman midfielder Andrea Colford (Eden Prairie, Minn./H.S.) led the Spartans offense during the two victories. 

The freshman scored two goals with two assists and two ground balls in the win over Elmhurst and added three goals, two assists, five ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers against Illinois Tech. 

Aurora will play host to Southwestern (TX) and Muskingum over the weekend.

In other action...

Beloit College (3-3, 1-0 MWLC) finished the week with a 1-1 overall mark and opened conference play with a win.  The Bucs fell to Carthage 11-9 and bounced back to beat Benedictine 13-2. Freshman midfielder Kelley Flint (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) had four ground balls, two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two goals in the loss to Carthage.  Flint followed that performance with 11 ground balls, four draw controls, one caused turnover, one goal, and four assists in the win over Benedictine. 

Concordia University (2-3, 1-0 MWLC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 19-2 win at home over Loras. Freshman midfielder Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth Academy) scored four goals with one assist, four ground balls, and two draw controls in the win over the Duhawks. 

Loras College (1-3, 0-1 MWLC) won its first game of the season, beating Carroll 13-6 in non-conference play.  The Duhawks received four goals, one assist, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and seven draw controls from junior Kaitlyn Kutsch (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) in the win.
