MWLC Report (Week 9) - Aurora & Beloit Join CUW in MWLC Tourney Field

WAUKESHA, WI - Aurora University and Beloit College joined Concordia University in the upcoming MWLC tourney field with wins last week.  The Spartans (8-6, 5-1 MWLC) secured the No. 2 seed with wins over Beloit and Loras, while the Bucs (8-6, 5-2 MWLC) locked up the No. 3 seed with wins at Wartburg and Cornell College.

Aurora's Chloe Madison (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) led the Spartans with three goals and one assist in the 9-8 win over Beloit and added four goals and two assists in an 18-7 win at Loras.

Beloit College sophomore goalie Marie Bonine (Stillwater, Minn./H.S.) tallied three ground balls with four saves in the narrow loss to Aurora, nine saves in a 12-4 win over Wartburg, and 13 saves and two caused turnovers in a 15-5 win over Cornell College. 

For the week, Bonine registered 26 saves and a .591 save percentage to anchor the Bucs defense.

Aurora and Beloit will face each other in the MWLC tournament semifinal at 4:00 PM Friday, May 1 at Concordia University.

In other action...

Concordia University (9-6, 6-0 MWLC) earned a split during a pair of non-conference contests last week.  The Falcons dropped a 21-7 decision at Mount Union and pulled out an exciting 21-20 overtime win at North Central. In the win over NCC, three different players scored four goals during the high scoring affair.  Concordia will host the No. 4 seed in the MWLC tournament semifinals at 1:00 PM Friday, May 1.

Illinois Tech (5-9, 3-3 MWLC) finished the week with a 2-1 mark in league play.  The Scarlet Hawks won a pair of overtime contests, beating Benedictine 12-11 and Cornell College 10-9.  IIT finished the week with a 10-5 loss to Wartburg.  Illinois Tech is ineligible to participate in the MWLC tournament since they are currently in a transition period to NCAA Division III and are ineligible to participate in the NCAA tournament.  The Scarlet Hawks will close the season against Concordia and Dallas this week.

Wartburg College (4-10, 3-3 MWLC) finished the week with a split in conference play.  The Knights fell to Beloit 12-4 and earned a 10-5 win over Illinois Tech.  Junior Ashley Lahti (Turtle Lake, Wis./H.S.) scored two goals with one assist and three draw controls in the win over the Scarlet Hawks.  Wartburg can secure the No. 4 seed in the MWLC tournament with a win at Benedictine Saturday.

Benedictine University (3-11, 2-3 MWLC) went 2-1 overall during the week and continues to remain alive for a MWLC tourney spot.  Sophomore midfielder Becca Gullett (Lockport, Ill./H.S.) scored three goals with four ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover in a 12-11 loss to Illinois Tech. Gullett netted four goals in a 13-7 win over Carroll and added two goals in an 8-7 win at Loras. Benedictine can earn the No. 4 seed in the MWLC tourney with a win at home over Wartburg Saturday.
