MWLC Report (Week 3) - CUW Opens MWLC Schedule 2-0

WAUKESHA, WI - The Concordia University (Wis.) women's lacrosse team opened the season with a pair of conference wins last week.  The Falcons (2-0, 2-0 MWLC) claimed a 9-8 win over Augsburg and a 17-11 win over Illinois Tech to kick off the league schedule.

Senior Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis./Kewaskum) led the Falcons with two goals and one assist in the win over Augsburg. Boehlke also had three ground balls, four draw control wins and a caused turnover in the win.

In the win over Illinois Tech on Tuesday, Boehlke added three goals and four assists against the Scarlet Hawks.   Freshman Lauren Paquin (Waukesha, Wis./H.S.) added seven goals on eight shots in the win.

Augsburg College (3-1, 1-1 MWLC) bounced back from the loss to CUW to beat Carroll (Wis.) 14-2 on Sunday. Junior Nicole Szczebak (Goodyear, Ariz./Desert Edge) set a school record with 13 ground balls, one goal and two caused turnovers in the Auggies' win over Carroll.  The 13 ground-ball effort is the most by any NCAA Division III women's player this season and is tied for the 13th most in NCAA Division III history.

Illinois Tech (1-1, 1-1 MWLC) pulled out a 11-4 win over Loras prior to the loss to CUW. Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) scored three goals with an assist, five ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead the Scarlet Hawks to the season opening win.

Beloit College (1-3, 1-1 MWLC) found the win column with a 20-2 win over Concordia-Chicago Saturday. Senior Libby Storrick (Coon Rapids, Minn./H.S.) scored three goals and added seven assists, three ground balls, two draw controls and four caused turnovers in the win.

Aurora University (1-2, 0-0 MWLC) had a busy week, finishing 1-2 overall.  The Spartans beat Kalamazoo 20-5 and fell on the road to Occidental and Claremont Mudd Scripps. In the win over the Hornets, senior attack Rachel Cochran (Kalamazoo, Mich./Mattawan) scored five goals, on eight shots, with two assists and two ground balls.

Benedictine University (1-2, 0-0 MWLC) pulled out a 9-8 overtime win at Hanover Wednesday. The Eagles trailed 7-3 in the second half before forcing overtime with a goal with 39 seconds remaining. Junior Becca Gullett (Lockport, Ill./H.S.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime and finished the contest with three goals, one assist, six ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
