WAUKESHA, WI - The Concordia University (Wis.) women's lacrosse team secured at least a share of the school's second-straight MWLC title and top seed in the upcoming MWLC Tournament with a pair of conference wins last week. The Falcons (12-1, 8-0 MWLC) beat Wartburg and Cornell College over the weekend and will host the tourney on May 6-7.
Sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) had five goals, one assist, five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers during a 16-4 win at Wartburg and added five goals, one assist, six ground balls and three draw controls in a 21-6 win over Cornell College.
For the week, Kurek totaled 10 goals, two assists, 11 ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers, while the Falcons defense allowed five goals per contest.
Concordia will close the regular season schedule against Beloit and Colorado College this week.
In other MWLC action...
Aurora University (9-7, 7-1 MWLC) secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament following league wins over Benedictine and Augsburg. Sophomore midfield Andrea Colford (Eden Prairie, Minn./H.S.) scored seven goals in AU's 19-12 win over Augsburg and netted three goals with one assist in a 13-10 league win over Benedictine.
Illinois Tech (11-4, 6-1 MWLC) remained alive for a share of the conference title with a 16-1 win over Concordia Chicago. The Scarlet Hawks would need to beat Benedictine and Aurora this week and have Concordia (Wis.) lose to Beloit to share the title. IIT is ineligible to play in the MWLC tourney since it is still a provisional member of NCAA Division III and unable to claim the AQ into the NCAA tourney.
Augsburg (9-6, 4-3 MWLC) and Benedictine (6-7, 4-3 MWLC) can each claim the final two tourney spots with a single win this week. The Auggies play at Cornell College and at Loras, while the Eagles will face Illinois Tech and Concordia Chicago.
