MWLC Report (Week 7) - CUW Claims Wins Over Carthage, Carroll & Concordia Chicago

WAUKESHA, WI - The Concordia University (Wis.) women's lacrosse team claimed wins over Carthage, Carroll (Wis.) and Concordia Chicago (0-11, 0-4 MWLC) during the week.  The Falcons (8-1, 5-0 MWLC) currently sit alone atop the MWLC standings at 5-0.

Sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led the Falcons during the three victories.

The sophomore finished with two goals, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers in an 11-8 win over Carthage.  

Kurek then recorded four goals, seven ground balls, two draw controls and a program-record tying 10 caused turnovers in a 15-5 win over Carroll (Wis.).

The Chicago native capped the week with four goals, three assists, a program-record 14 ground balls, a program-record 13 draw controls and three caused turnovers in an 18-0 win over Concordia Chicago. 

For the week, Kurek totaled 10 goals, four assists, 25 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers. 

Concordia will host Hamline at Noon Saturday.

In other MWLC action...

Augsburg College (7-3, 3-1 MWLC) beat Benedictine (4-5, 2-1 MWLC) 17-7 in league play and ended the week with a 16-7 loss to Carthage. In the win over the Eagles, sophomore Helena Nguyen (Maple Grove, Minn./H.S.) led the Auggies with six goals and one assist.

Illinois Tech (6-3, 3-1 MWLC) earned a 14-5 conference win over Wartburg (5-6, 2-3 MWLC) Saturday. Freshman Alyssa DeLuca (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) led the Scarlet Hawks with four goals, two ground balls and two draw controls in the win.

Aurora University (5-5, 3-1 MWLC) climbed back to the .500 mark on the season, beating Loras (3-6, 1-3 MWLC) and Dubuque at home. Junior Kenny Hughes (Calgary, Alberta/Winston Churchill) connected on all seven of her shots on goal, while adding one assist and one draw control in the win over the Duhawks.

Beloit College (2-7, 2-3 MWLC) snapped a five-game losing streak with a 12-5 win over Cornell College (0-9, 0-4 MWLC). Senior Sarah Fithian (Plantation, Fla./South) scored seven goals with two ground balls in the conference win. The seven goals scored by Fithian tied a Beloit single game record.
