WAVERLY, IA—Anna Meerbach has been named the head lacrosse coach at Wartburg College, Athletic Director Rick Willis, announced today. She is the second coach in program history as Wartburg began competition in women's lacrosse in the Spring of 2015. Women's lacrosse was the college's 20th varsity sport and the first new program since men and women's soccer was added in 1989.

Meerbach (pronounced MEER-Bach, like the composer,) comes to Waverly from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Penn. where she served as the assistant lacrosse coach. She was responsible for coaching strategies on offense and defense, player development, team conditioning, clinics and camps, recruitment and scouting. Meerbach was also the head coach of a club team with Lanco Elite Lacrosse.

"Anna has great enthusiasm and passion for lacrosse," said Willis. "She was an outstanding player in a very successful program at Elizabethtown College and has quality coaching experience at the high school, club and college levels. She is well prepared to continue to build on the foundation we have established during the past two years. We are excited to welcome Anna to Wartburg."

Meerbach graduated from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Penn. in 2012, where she was a starter for three seasons and served as team captain her senior year. She was an all-Middle Atlantic Conference defender and her team won the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship and the 2012 Commonwealth Conference Championship and played in two NCAA tournaments during her career with the BlueJays.

"I am excited and honored to be the next head women's lacrosse coach at Wartburg," said Meerbach. "I'd like to thank Coach Willis and the rest of the athletic department for the opportunity. I look forward to continuing the growth of lacrosse within the college as well as the community. I am excited to coach a team of highly motivated and passionate young women, while building on the tradition of athletic and academic success at Wartburg."

Meerbach will begin her duties Aug. 17.
