BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Hamline University's lacrosse team's 2018 season came to an end with an 18-8 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University in an NCAA Division III tournament second-round game Sunday. The Pipers' school-record 13-game winning streak was halted by the Titans, who will now face No. 4 ranked Middlebury in a third-round game next weekend.

Kalley Elwell (pictured) scored twice for HU with Lexus Tatge, Maddie Brown, Radian Lenz, Sydney Dynneson, Dana Almquist and Maya Hernandez adding singles. The Pipers finished the season 15-5, the exact same record they had in 2017.

Almquist, the all-time leading goalscorer and point getter in Hamline women's lacrosse history, got the game going on the right foot with her 31st goal of the season 67 seconds into the game. IWU replied with four in a seven and a half minutes for a 4-1 lead. Undaunted, HU responded with three goals in a 2:21 span to tie the game at four with 12 minutes left in the first half.

The Titans came back with four of their own for an 8-4 halftime bulge. The teams traded goals three times in the second half before IWU scored twice in 26 seconds. Elwell snared her second of the game for HU to get within 13-8. IWU then pulled away with five goals for their 12th straight win. Molly Dionne had 11 saves in goal for Hamline.

It was the final game for Almquist, who leaves HU with 143 goals and 22 assists in 39 career games and fellow attacker Katie Pearson. HU head coach Karen Heggernes is now 42-16 overall in the three years she has been head coach for the Pipers.
