LISLE, Ill. -- It is with great pleasure that Benedictine University announces the appointment of Hannah Sopeth to the position of head women's lacrosse coach.

"Hannah has posted success in the spot everywhere she has been," director of athletics Mark McHorney said. "Her experience and leadership is a tremendous fit for our program."

Sopeth brings playing and coaching experience at the Division III level to Benedictine along with ties to the local lacrosse community. The Lakeville, Minnesota native worked as the graduate assistant at North Central College for two years. While at North Central, the team won 23 games and reached the conference tournament both seasons, setting a then record mark for wins with 13 in 2016.

"Not everyone is given the opportunity to turn their passion into their career," Sopeth said. "I have been given that opportunity with Benedictine University, and I am more than excited to get in and make a name for us in the Midwest and Division III Women's Lacrosse. I'm ready to build, transform, and create this team into something that everyone can be proud of."

Sopeth has also served as a club coach and private lesson coach at Players Indoor Sports in Naperville since 2013 and coached at Neuqua Valley High School during the 2013-14 season.

A graduate of Carthage College, Sopeth was a member of the women's lacrosse team, scoring over 80 career goals over three years, helping to start the school's program. The 2012 team still holds a school record for wins in a season with 12. Sopeth, who ranks sixth all-time in goals at Carthage, was a first team all-conference selection and player of the year from her midfield position and appeared in the International Women's Lacrosse Tournament in Melbourne, Australia.

The women's lacrosse team will take the field for the first time under Sopeth on March 2 at home against the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
