Deer, Luksan Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS—Cornell College's Nina Deer and Hamline University's Maitland Luksan have been named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events Feb. 21-27, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Deer (Highland Park, Ill.) totaled five goals, two assists, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers in the record-breaking 19-0 win over Spalding on Sunday, Feb. 27. The senior scored four times in the first quarter as the Rams established a school record for shot attempts in a game (54).

Luksan (Plymouth, Minn.) recorded a team-high four caused turnovers and added three ground balls in the 12-9 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Feb. 26. She also had one goal and one assist on three shot attempts.

This is the first career MWLC honor for both players, and the first offensive player of the week honor for Rams since week seven in 2021, and first defensive accolade for the Pipers since week five in 2021.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
