Prokopec, Kuwahara Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS—Augsburg University's Maylynn Prokopec and Lake Forest College's Krissy Kuwahara have been named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events Feb. 28-March 6, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Prokopec (Owatonna, Minn.) scored 10 of the 15 goals by the Auggies over the weekend on 18 shots, and finished with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Three of those 10 goals were on free-position shots. On Saturday against Beloit, she tied an Augsburg single-game school record with seven goals, and added six ground balls and three caused turnovers. On Sunday against Carroll (Wis.), Prokopec had three goals and added a ground ball. 

Kuwahara (Anaheim, Calif.) led the Forester's defensive efforts as the team won the first two games in program history. She had eight ground balls and one goal in Tuesday's 15-4 season opener win against Beloit. Kuwahara later had three goals and one assist in the 24-10 victory at Brevard on Sunday.

This is the first career MWLC honor for both players, and the first offensive player of the week honor for Auggies since week five of 2015. This is the inaugural award for the Foresters. 

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
