Swift, Wiebold, Bialo, Smith Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Cornell College's Sydney Swift and Northwestern's Samantha Wiebold both earned Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive player of the week recognition, while Cornell's Seanne Bialo and the University of Northwestern's Cara Smith both received league defensive players of the week, for events March 28-April 3, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Swift (Aurora, Colo.) tied Cornell's single-game record for goals with seven in the 16-7 win Friday at Augsburg. She finished the week with eight goals on only 13 shot attempts over two games, and had six caused turnovers on the week.

Wiebold (Farmington, Minn.) led the Eagles to a 12-7 conference opening victory over the Rams Saturday. The senior netted a hat trick and had assists on three other goals to lead UNW with six points. She added five ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. 

Bialo (Anchorage, Alaska) set the single-season school record for caused turnovers (32) and tied the mark for ground balls (54) this past week. In the victory against Augsburg, she accounted for seven caused turnovers, which was one shy of the program's single-game mark. Bialo finished with 15 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers on the week.

Smith (Watertown, Wis.) had seven turnovers, nine ground balls, and four draw controls in the win over Cornell. She also added a hat trick on the other side of the field in that contest.

This is the third MWLC weekly honor for Smith this season. This marks the first career honor for Swift, Wiebold, and Bialo..

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
