Wiebold, Saban Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Northwestern's Samantha Wiebold was named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive player of the week, while Lake Forest College's Calliope Saban received league defensive player of the week, for events April 25- May 1 as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Wiebold (Farmington, Minn.) scored her 100th career goal Saturday to highlight a 12-goal week for the senior. She led the Eagles with a career-high seven goal game in the 22-8 victory over Augsburg Friday, and tallied five goals in the 21-11 loss Saturday against UW-LaCrosse. Wiebold added 11 draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers on the week.

Saban (South Elgin, Ill.) helped the Foresters to a 14-9 victory over Hamline Friday to claim the 2022 MWLC Regular Season Championship. The goalie made six saves and added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the contest. She finished the regular season as the league's leader in save percentage (62.7%) in MWLC games.

This is the second career MWLC weekly honor for Wiebold and first for Saban.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
