Hamline Wins Fifth-Straight MWLC Tournament Championship

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Hamline University defeated Lake Forest College 13-12 in overtime in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Tournament championship Saturday afternoon at Farwell Field.

This was the first championship game that went to overtime in MWLC tournament history. There have been two previous semifinals that have needed an extra session to determine a winner.

The Pipers tied the game with 1:22 remaining in regulation and scored the game-winner 36 seconds into the overtime session.

Hamline won its fifth-straight Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) tournament championship and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament next week. The Pipers now also hold the mark for most MWLC tournament crowns with five.

This is the fifth championship under head coach Karen Heggernes in Hamline's sixth year of membership in the MWLC.

The NCAA selection show will be Monday, May 9 at 9:30 a.m.
