Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Mal Euson and
Matt Westhaver scored three goals apiece to lead the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team to the programs first-ever shutout win, a 9-0 victory over Calvin College.
Elmhurst (1-2) dominated the contest, outshooting Calvin 39-12, including an 11-1 mark in the opening quarter.
The Bluejays struck first with 5:18 left in the first quarter on Euson's second goal of the season off of an assist from
Angelo Carbonara. Elmhurst cashed in on a Calvin penalty just 56 seconds later as Westhaver fired home a shot from Carbonara on a man-advantage to put the Bluejays on top 2-0. Westhaver fired home his second goal of the quarter with 2:45 left to give Elmhurst a 3-0 cushion after the first quarter.

Alex Opyd,
Jackson Mandli and Euson all firing home shots to give the Bluejays a six-goal lead at the half.
Euson completed the hat trick with Elmhurst's lone goal of the third quarter, scoring off a
Drew Wassenaar assist with 8:39 left. Westhaver finished his hat trick early in the fourth quarter, ripping home a shot with 12:24 left off a feed from Euson. Opyd tacked on his second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, with 5:39 left for the Bluejays' final goal of the contest.
The Bluejays' defense was solid, forcing Calvin (1-3) into 34 turnovers in the contest. The Knights also struggled to clear the zone, finishing just 16-of-29 on clearing attempts. Elmhurst was nearly flawless on clearing attempts, converting 16-of-17 attempts.
Euson led the Bluejays' offense with four points on three goals and an assist while Westhaver (three goals), Carbonara (three assists) and Opyd (two goals and one assist) each totaled three points in the victory.
Ben Porter finished 9-of-13 on faceoffs and also scooped up a team-leading nine ground balls in the victory.
Nick Bonastia earned his first collegiate victory and shutout in the net, recording four saves and keeping Calvin off the scoreboard. Calvin keeper Casey Harless was tagged for nine goals while stopping five shots.
Elmhurst returns to action next Saturday, March 15, by hosting Adrian College at 1:00 p.m.
