Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team survived a shaky third to down Elmhurst 8-6 on Wednesday night.
Elmhurst opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest. Benedictine responded with two goals just over two minutes apart to grab the advantage. Back-to-back goals in the second allowed the Eagles to open a 4-2 lead. Elmhurst scored with less than :30 remaining but Benedictine countered with a late tally from
Blake Keenan to lead 5-3 at the break.
Elmhurst scored three times in the third quarter while keeping Benedictine off the board to lead for the first time since the early moments at 6-5. The fourth quarter saw Benedictine score three times to rally for the win.
Robert Abbott tied the game with 8:53 remaining and
Brendon Berg put Benedictine ahead just over a minute later.
Andrew Zmijewski scored three times to lead Benedictine in an even contest. Both teams won nine faceoffs and were 17-for-18 on clear attempts. The Eagles scored twice in a man-up situation.
Jeffrey Smitheram halted nine shots in goal. Benedictine held a 29-28 lead in shots and a 29-28 edge in groundballs.
Benedictine (7-3, 3-1) will host Augustana on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
