MLC Report (Week 4) - Red Men Defeat Fontbonne in MLC Opener

WAUKESHA, WI - Carthage College saw its win streak reach three straight following a pair of wins last week.  The Red Men (4-1, 1-0 MLC) opened MLC play with a 22-3 win at Fontbonne (1-5, 0-1 MLC) and capped the week with a 19-0 shutout win at Rockhurst.

Senior attacker Danny Morse (O'Fallon, Ill./Township) led the Red Men offensive effort in a pair of wins.  The senior scored two goals and added seven assists in the win over Fontbonne and added two goals and three assists against Rockhurst on Sunday. 

The senior passed the 200 point mark in his career and now sits with 213 career points, ranking third in the NCAA across all three divisions.

Freshman LSM Jordyn Williams (Laguna Hills, Calif./Aliso Niguel) anchored the Red Men defense during the week. The freshman had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers against Fontbonne and added six ground balls and four caused turnovers in the win over Rockhurst. 

The Red Men currently lead the MLC in goals allowed, surrendering only 5.8 goals per contest. 

Carthage will travel to MSOE (0-1, 0-0 MLC) on Thursday and will return home for a matchup with DePauw Saturday afternoon.

In other action...

Hanover College (3-1, 1-0 MLC) was victorious in its only action last week.  The Panthers opened MLC play with a 17-9 win at home over Mount St. Joseph (1-5, 0-1 MLC). Junior attacker Josh Green (Beaumaris, Australia) tied the Hanover College men's lacrosse team's single-match scoring record, scoring eight goals in the win.

Benedictine University (2-1, 0-0 MLC) earned a 12-10 win over Olivet Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore midfielder Andrew Zmijewski (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) led the Eagles with three goals, two assists, and five ground balls.

Elmhurst College (1-2, 0-0 MLC) posted its first win of the season with a 9-0 shutout victory against Calvin.  The shutout was the first in the program's history.  Sophomore midfielder Mal Euson (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) scored three goals with one assist and one ground ball in the win.
