MLC Report (Week 6) - Concordia (Wis.) Improves to 3-0 in MLC Play

WAUKESHA, WI - Concordia University (Wis.) finished a perfect week going 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action.  The Falcons (5-2, 3-0 MLC) soared to wins over MSOE, Hanover, and Olivet to run their win streak to four in a row.

Junior attacker Matt Larsen (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) scored 10 goals and added three assists during the three wins. Larsen netted two goals with an assist in a 17-2 win over MSOE and added five goals with an assist in a 24-10 home win over Hanover.  The junior capped off the week with three goals and an assist in a 15-7 non-conference win at Olivet Monday evening.

Concordia senior LSM Kyle Burrell (Calgary, Alberta/Henry Wise Wood) helped the Falcons defense during the 3-0 week. The senior recorded eight ground balls and four caused turnovers against MSOE and added four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a goal vs. Hanover. Burrell added six more ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over Olivet.

Concordia is scheduled to face Adrian and Alma in non-league action this week.

In other MLC action...

Aurora (2-3, 2-0 MLC) opened the conference schedule with a pair of wins last week. The Spartans posted a 16-4 win over Elmhurst (3-4, 1-1 MLC) and added a 28-1 home win over Fontbonne (2-8, 1-3 MLC) Saturday. Junior midfielder Max Obriecht (Naperville, Ill./North) scored a pair of goals with three assists against Elmhurst and added eight goals with an assist in the win over Fontbonne. In the two wins, Obriecht collected 28 ground balls and was near perfect in face offs, going 29-of-31.

Carthage (7-1, 3-0 MLC) remained perfect in conference action and has won six straight contests following a pair of wins.  The Red Men shut out Defiance (0-6, 0-2 MLC) 24-0 and earned a road win over MSOE (0-5, 0-4 MLC) 15-1. Junior attacker Timothy Francis (Costa Mesa, Calif./Huntington Beach) scored five goals with an assist against Defiance and added a pair of goals with an assist in the win over MSOE.

Hanover (7-2, 3-1 MLC) earned a split during league play, posting a win over Fontbonne 17-3.  Junior attacker Josh Green (Beaumaris, Austrailia) led the offense with four goals and three assists in the win over the Griffins. 

Augustana (3-3, 1-1 MLC) won a triple overtime thriller over Mount St. Joseph (1-8, 0-3 MLC) Sunday.  The Vikings claimed a 15-14 win as Scott Davis (Overland Park, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) scored the winning goal with an assist from Jesse Nagelberg (St. Charles, Ill./East) with just over two minutes remaining in the third extra frame.
