MLC Report (Week 10) - AU, CUW, & CC Secure MLC Tourney Bids

WAUKESHA, WI - Aurora University, Concordia University (Wis.), and Carthage College all secured a spot in the upcoming MLC Tournament following wins last week.  The trio all locked up a bid with wins on Saturday.

Aurora (11-3, 8-0 MLC) saw its win streak reach 11-straight after dominating wins over Defiance (0-13, 0-8 MLC) and Hanover (9-6, 5-4 MLC).  Senior goalie Adam Holka (Howell, Mich./Hartland) anchored the defensive effort in both games. Holka allowed only two goals in the two wins, posting a 1.98 goals against average during the week.  The senior had four saves while facing 11 shots against the Jackets and Panthers.

The Spartans can lock up the top seed in the upcoming MLC tournament with a win over Benedictine or Augustana this week.

Concordia (12-3, 7-1 MLC) earned wins over Elmhurst and Benedictine (9-5, 5-3 MLC) to earn a postseason berth.  The Falcons beat Elmhurst 9-2 and moved past Benedictine 10-5 Saturday.  Nine different players scored in the win over Elmhurst, while eight players found the back of the net against the Eagles. 

Concordia will close the regular season against Carthage and Defiance this week.

Carthage (13-4, 7-1 MLC) claimed a pair of road wins over Augustana and Mount St. Joseph to earn a MLC tourney spot.  The Red Men received three goals and seven ground balls from Jack Meachum (Naperville, Ill./North) in the win over the Vikings.  Meachum added three goals and three ground balls in the win over MSJ (2-13, 1-7 MLC).

Carthage will face Concordia (Wis.) and Hanover during the final week of the regular season.

The MLC Tournament will take place on Wednesday, April 30 and Saturday, May 3.  The two semifinals on April 30 will be played at the high seed, with the championship contest being played May 3 at the highest remaining seed.

In other MLC action...

Augustana College (9-4, 6-2 MLC) bounced back from an 11-9 loss to Carthage to beat Fontbonne 19-5 Saturday.  Sophomore attacker Kevin Gleason (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) led the Vikings offense during the week. The sophomore scored three goals against Carthage and netted eight goals with two assists in the win over Fontbonne (2-12, 1-7 MLC). The Vikings will look to secure the fourth and final spot in the MLC tournament with a win over Elmhurst or Aurora this week.

Elmhurst College (7-8, 4-5 MLC) claimed a 16-0 shutout win at Defiance College Saturday.  The Bluejays received five goals and an assist from freshman Angelo Carbonara (St. Charles, Ill./Marmion Academy) in the win over DC. 

MSOE (2-10, 1-7 MLC) earned its second win of the season, beating Dubuque 16-0 in non-conference play.  The Engineers were led by four goals and three assists from Andrew Clemens (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and Brent Finnegan (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray) in the win.
