ST. LOUIS – Coach Mark Prey, an up and comer in the
lacrosse ranks, has been named the head men's lacrosse coach at
Fontbonne University. Prey replaces former head coach Colin Smith
who recently took a position to be closer to family.
"We are excited to announce Coach Prey as our next men's
lacrosse coach and welcome him to the Fontbonne Family in his new
role," said Director of Athletics, Maria Eftink. "He is well-known
and highly regarded throughout the St. Louis Community and has
achieved tremendous success throughout his young coaching
career. We are looking forward to this new era of Fontbonne
men's lacrosse under Coach Prey's leadership."
Prey is no stranger to Fontbonne University, having spent
last season on staff as an assistant coach. Prey helped lead the
Griffin squad to their second straight .500 season
(8-8).
"It is a true honor to be named head coach of the Fontbonne
Griffins men's lacrosse team, says Coach Prey. I am excited
to join an athletic department with such historical excellence in
the classroom, on the playing field, and in our community.
Thank you, sincerely, for all the support from everyone involved
throughout the coaching search. Go Griffins!"
Prey broke into the coaching ranks with the St. Louis Kings
Youth Lacrosse Association in 2004. The past four years Prey has
coached for the Webster Groves High School men's club team. He is
currently coaching at every level of lacrosse, which is beneficial
for Fontbonne recruiting in the future. In 2009 he was named
Boy's Lacrosse Assistant Head Varsity Coach at Webster Groves High
School and during the 2011-12 season, he was voted Missouri
Assistant Coach of the Year.
