MLC Report (Week 6) - AU Opens MLC Play with Win Over Concordia Chicago

WAUKESHA, WI - The Aurora University men's lacrosse team opened the MLC schedule with a win over Concordia Chicago (0-7, 0-1 MLC) and also earned a non-league win over Carthage during the week of play.  The Spartans (7-1, 1-0 MLC) currently hold the top record in the conference at 7-1 overall this season.

Sophomore attack Trevor McNamara (Holland, Mich./Grand Haven) finished the week with nine goals, three assists and seven ground balls to lead the AU offense.

Defensively, freshman Bryce Wallgard (Newbury, Calif./Newbury Park) had a team-leading seven caused turnovers with five ground balls during the week.

Aurora is scheduled to host Cornell College at 12:00 PM Saturday.

In other action...

Benedictine University (6-2, 1-0 MLC) finished the week with a 1-1 record, beating Wells and falling to Brockport State.  In the 12-2 win over Wells, sophomore Matt Johnson (Rosemount, Minn./H.S.) netted a team-high five goals with three ground balls.

Concordia University (Wis.) (5-2, 1-0 MLC) kicked off the conference schedule with a 23-12 win over Beloit (1-7, 0-2 MLC). Senior attack Marino Best (Nanaimo, British Columbia/Wellington) scored nine goals with one assist and one caused turnover in the win over the Bucs. Best's nine goal effort is a program-tying record for a single game.

Cornell College (2-6, 1-0 MLC) also opened its conference slate with a narrow 8-6 win over MSOE. Sophomore long stick midfielder Galbraith Williams (Fairfax, Va./Christ Church School) had eight ground balls with four caused turnovers in the win over the Raiders. 

MSOE (2-4, 0-1 MLC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 12-1 win over Dallas Monday. Sophomore Clay Gustafson (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) scored four goals with one assist, while Zach Markell (Missouri City, Texas/Hightower) added five goals for the Raiders.
