MLC Report (Week 3) - Benedictine Opens Season with 2-0 Mark

WAUKESHA, WI - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team opened the season with a pair of wins last week.  The Eagles beat Elmhurst 13-11 and Carthage 8-4 with both victories coming on the road.

Offensively, sophomore Matt Johnson (Rosemount, Minn./H.S.) scored four goals, including the game-winner, with one assist and four ground balls in a 13-11 win at Elmhurst and added three goals with one assist and four ground balls in an 8-4 win over Carthage.

For the week, Johnson averaged 3.5 goals, 1.0 assist and 4.0 ground balls per contest.

Senior goalie Jeremy Voyda (Naperville, Ill./North) totaled 14 saves and allowed only four first half goals as Benedictine beat Carthage for the first time in program history.  Voyda also tallied 13 saves against Elmhurst.

Benedictine (2-0, 0-0 MLC) will play host to Augustana and Olivet this week.

In other action...

Concordia University (Wis.) (2-1, 0-0 MLC) earned a home win, beating Augustana 9-6 Saturday.  Senior Matt Garvey (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) led the Falcons with three goals in the win over the Vikings.

Beloit College (1-2, 0-0 MLC) found the win column for the first time this season, posting an 18-0 win over Dubuque Saturday. Liam O'Connor (Portsmouth, RI/Abbey) led the Bucs with three goals, four assists and five ground balls in the victory.
