MONMOUTH, Illinois -- Monmouth College men's lacrosse coach Andrew Routt has resigned to become the assistant women's lacrosse coach at Marquette University.

A search will begin immediately to find Routt's replacement.

Routt started the Fighting Scots' men's lacrosse program in 2017, guiding the team to a 3-11 overall record.

"It was truly a highlight of my life to work at Monmouth College," said Routt. "I want to express my gratitude toward the administration, Athletic Director Roger Haynes and President Clarence Wyatt for having the faith in me to begin Monmouth's lacrosse program. I am very proud to have been a Fighting Scot, and I am proud to have started what I know will become a storied lacrosse program.

"Monmouth is a great place to coach, and I have learned a tremendous amount of what it takes to be successful, not only in collegiate athletics but also in life."

In addition to winning the first lacrosse contest in college history – a 9-5 win over Carroll (Wis.) University – three Fighting Scots earned conference honors: Taitum Priewe and Max Morlock received Midwest Lacrosse Conference awards and Thomas Van Alstine was named to the Midwest Lacrosse Conference All-Academic Team.
