Fontbonne Suspends Men's Lacrosse Program Indefinitely

Fontbonne University

The Fontbonne University Athletics Department announced that it has suspended its men's lacrosse program indefinitely due to roster numbers falling below a critical level.

"I would like to thank Coach Singleton and all his hard work and dedication to Fontbonne lacrosse," said Fontbonne Director of Athletics Maria Buckel. "His passion for lacrosse will make him successful in leading future teams. I would also like to thank the current players and alumni for their dedication to Fontbonne Lacrosse. I hope they appreciate the legacy they have created and can hold on to the memories they have on and off the field."

The Griffins' 2016 season was also canceled due to low numbers, but had fielded teams the past three seasons. A similar situation came about this year after losing several players entering the spring.

The Midwest Lacrosse Conference has yet to begin league play, so the withdrawal of Fontbonne from the league will not affect the 2020 standings. Fontbonne was a charter member of the MLC in 2010.

The 12 current members of the MLC are Aurora University, Beloit College, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University Wisconsin, Cornell College, Illinois Tech, Marian University, MSOE, Monmouth College, North Central University, and University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
