Marlenee and Begner Earn MLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Northwestern's Chase Marlenee and Cornell College's Evan Begner have been named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events March 8-14 as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Marlenee (Northfield, Minn.) scored five goals and added five assists in two games for the Eagles. The senior had an eight-point, four-goal, four-assist performance against Marian on Wednesday, March 10.

Begner (Evergreen, Colo.) made 16 saves in his first collegiate victory at goalie as the Rams rallied past Northland, 12-8, in the MLC opener Saturday. He allowed only two goals in the second half to help Cornell overcome a 7-5 halftime deficit.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Beloit (Beloit, Wis.), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), North Central (Minneapolis, Minn.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
