ST. PAUL -- The University of Northwestern defeated Monmouth College 17-4 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) Tournament championship Saturday evening at Reynolds Field. 

The Eagles won their first MLC tournament championship and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament next week. 

This is the first championship under head coach Travis Sanders in Northwestern's third year of membership in the MLC. This is also the first trip to the NCAA Tournament for a men's lacrosse program in the state of Minnesota.

The NCAA selection show will be Sunday, May 9 at 8 p.m.
