Jussila, Doyle, Simons Earn MLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS—Cornell College's Kyle Jussila received Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) offensive player of the week recognition, while the University of Dubuque's Ryan Doyle and Monmouth College's Teagan Simons both received league defensive players of the week, for events February 28-March 6 as selected by the league's head coaches.

Jussila (Elk River, Minn.) had eight points on the week. He had five goals Wednesday at Edgewood in the 9-4 win, and two goals Saturday in the 9-7 loss to Illinois Tech. Jussila currently leads the MLC in goals with 13 on the season.

Doyle (Brighton, Mich.) scored the first goal of the game, and his first collegiate goal, against No. 10 Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday. He added five caused turnovers and eight ground balls to lead the team in both categories. After surrendering seven goals in the first quarter, the Spartans were only outscored by four goals for the duration of the contest. 

Simons (Littleton, Colo.) had a 63.3 save percentage and made 38 saves on the week. He had 26 saves Saturday against Concordia Wisconsin alone. Simons currently sits second in the league in saves and third in save percentage.

This is the second career MLC honor for Jussila, first for Doyle, and third for Simons. This is the inaugural award for Dubuque as 2022 marks its first year of membership in the MLC.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), North Central (Minneapolis, Minn.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
