Dubuque Wins First MLC Tournament Championship

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The University of Dubuque defeated Lake Forest College 11-10 in overtime in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) Tournament championship Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. This was the first overtime game in the history of the MLC tournament.

The Spartans won their first MLC tournament championship and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament next week.

The Foresters knotted the game with just six seconds remaining in regulation.

Dubuque's Sam Todd connected on a pass from Gavin Hughes with 0:41 remaining in the first overtime session for the game-winner.

This is the first championship under head coach Kasey Burst in Dubuque's first year of membership in the MLC. This is also the first trip to the NCAA Tournament for a men's lacrosse program in the state of Iowa.

The Spartans' Ryan Gartner was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts in the two games.
