Dubuque sweeps MLC weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Dubuque's Aidan Culligan and Nikolas Wortman earned Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) offensive and defensive player of the week honors, respectively, for events March 13-20, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Culligan (Eagle, Idaho) scored five goals on eight shots on goal over the two games for the Spartans last week. He added four assists and three ground balls. "His nine points led our team this week and helped us finish 1-1," said head coach Kasey Burst. "We had our highest point total ever against Carthage."

Wortman (Woodbury, Minn.) had 18 ground balls, one goal, and two assists over the two games last week for Dubuque. "He was also 25-32 for faceoffs, which included a perfect 15-15 against Beloit and was 10-17 against Carthage, who was over 60% on the season entering that game," noted Burst.

This is the second career MLC weekly honor for the duo, but first for this season.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
