Gaston, Cook earn MLC men’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's Trip Gaston and Cornell College's Thomas Cook were named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) men's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events April 15-21 as selected by the league's head coaches.

Gaston (Charlotte, N.C.) scored two goals and added two assists in Saturday's MLC 10-8 victory over Dubuque, which clinched the second-straight regular season conference title for the Foresters.

"Trip was the catalyst for our offense in Saturday's win over Dubuque," said head coach Phil Dodson. "He scored two of our first three goals helping us jump out to an early lead and then added two assists in the second half allowing us to hold on to the lead late in the game as UD made its fourth quarter comeback attempt."

Cook (Anthem, Ariz.) made 14 saves and had a .737 save percentage in Saturday's MLC 12-5 win over Northland.

"Thomas was remarkable in our game at Northland and this was one of his best games of the season," said head coach Lane Zierten. "His overall save percentage was excellent and he had about six saves that were jaw dropping. His pipe to pipe movement and one on ones were phenomenal and he kept us in the lead for a long time until we could get some momentum on offense. He won us this game."

This is the second career MLC weekly honor for Gaston and first for Cook.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
