The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team competed in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, falling to Washington and Lee University 17-4 at the University of Lynchburg.

The Generals took control of the game early, outscoring the Foresters 8-0 in the first quarter.

Lake Forest junior Chas Dean ended the run at the 8:53 mark of the second. His 14th goal of the season was set up by freshman Carson Pagel, who finished his rookie year with a team-high 28 assists, the second-highest total in program history.

Washington and Lee responded with back-to-back scores exactly a minute apart before Forester junior John Casey scored the first of his two goals on the day. One final tally from the Generals in the second quarter made it an 11-2 game at halftime.

Lake Forest surrendered four more scores in the first five minutes of the second half before sophomore Brendan Herbert netted his team-high 43rd of the year to make it 15-3 after three quarters.

Casey's second of the day and 23rd this season occurred between the Generals final two goals in the middle of the fourth.

Forester junior goalie Andrew Widlar finished with 13 saves, matching his total from Wednesday's first round victory over Transylvania University.

Fellow junior Conor Murphy led all players in the contest with seven ground balls and tied for game-high honors with three caused turnovers. His 94 ground balls this season are just one shy of the program record.

Lake Forest finished the season at 16-3 while Washington and Lee, the 16th-ranked team in the country, improved to 14-5 going into Sunday's third round game against Lynchburg.
