MWLC Report (Week 2) - Carthage Opens MWLC Play with 18-10 Win Over MSJ

WAUKESHA, WI - Carthage College opened the conference schedule with an impressive win Saturday.  The Lady Reds (2-1, 1-0 MWLC) earned an 18-10 win over visiting Mount St. Joseph (0-2, 0-1 MWLC) to move atop the standings.

The hosts stormed out to a 9-4 advantage at the break and tallied nine more goals in the second half to finish the contest.

Senior Lauren Chatham (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) led the offense with four goals and two assists.  Chatham also added one ground ball and five draw controls in the win.

Senior Ali Gorman (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) earned the win in net, allowing eight goals with nine saves.

Carthage will return to action on Wednesday, March 19 at home against Illinois Tech.

In other action...

Augustana College (3-0, 0-0 MWLC) posted a 12-6 win at Centre to remain perfect on the season. Sophomore goalie Jenna Hofmann (Littleton, Colo./Columbine) saved 62.5% of the Colonels shot attempts in the win, holding Centre to a season low six goals.  Hofmann also caused a turnover and intercepted three passes near the goal circle in the win.

Beloit College (2-0, 0-0 MWLC) moved to 2-0 on the season following a 17-6 win over Hilbert down in Orlando, Florida.  Sophomore Sara Fithian (Plantation, Fla./South) scored five goals and added five ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers in the win for the Buccaneers.

Benedictine University (1-1, 0-0 MWLC) earned its first win of the season Tuesday night, beating Illinois Tech 15-2.  Sophomore Samantha Link (St. Charles, Ill./East) netted three goals with an assist in the victory.

Loras College (1-2, 0-0 MWLC) sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Kutsch (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) scored a school record nine goals in the Duhawks' 12-3 win over Illinois Tech Saturday. The sophomore found the back of the net nine times on 11 shots and added three ground balls and four caused turnovers in the win.
