MWLC Report (Week 7) - Concordia Hands North Central 1st MWLC Defeat

WAUKESHA, WI - Concordia University (Wis.) took over second place in the MWLC standings after handing North Central College its first conference loss.  The Falcons (9-3, 5-1 MWLC) sit one game behind first place Augustana with four games remaining in league play.

Concordia earned a 14-13 win over previously league unbeaten North Central (5-4, 4-1 MWLC) Tuesday evening.  Junior Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn./H.S.) scored eight goals in the win, adding four ground balls and two draw controls.

Junior Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill./H.S.) scored the game-winner for the Falcons with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.  Redden finished the game with three goals and two assists.

Sophomore Gina Fisher (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led the Cardinals with seven goals, two assists, 14 ground balls, seven draw controls, and five caused turnovers in the loss.

Concordia is scheduled to face Beloit and Carthage in league play this week.

In other MWLC action...

Augustana (12-0, 6-0 MWLC) remained perfect on the season, earning road wins over Mount St. Joseph (8-6, 5-4 MWLC) and Carthage.  Junior Hilary Kargl (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) scored five goals with two assists in a 22-4 at Mount St. Joseph and added five goals with two assists in an 18-7 victory over Carthage.  

Carthage College (7-5, 5-2 MWLC) posted a 21-3 win over Benedictine prior to the loss to Augustana. The Lady Reds received eight goals, four assists, four ground balls, and eight draw controls from Lauren Chatham (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) in the win over the Eagles.

Beloit College (8-5, 4-2 MWLC) saw its win streak reach three straight following wins over Illinois Institute of Technology and Benedictine.  Sophomore Sara Fithian (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation) netted six goals in the win over Benedictine and added four goals in the win over IIT.

Aurora University (3-7, 2-3 MWLC) earned a 19-7 win over Loras (3-12, 2-5 MWLC) in its only action last week.  Freshman Lexie Wright (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) found the back of the net seven times and added four ground balls, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers in the win.

The University of Dubuque (3-7, 2-4 MWLC) has won three-straight since starting the season 0-7.  The Spartans posted wins over Fontbonne, Dallas, and Benedictine during the week of play. In an 18-11 win at Fontbonne, sophomore Bridget Schirmers (Coon Rapids, Minn./H.S.) scored six goals to lead the offense.  Schirmers added four goals in a 13-8 win over Dallas and scored four more goals in an 11-6 league win over Benedictine (1-11, 0-6 MWLC).

Fontbonne University (2-9, 0-7 MWLC) claimed a 12-10 non-conference win over Dallas Sunday.  Senior Tierney O'Brien (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) led the Griffins with six goals, two assists, five ground balls, and four draw controls in the win.
