Hamline University's Dana Almquist and Concordia University Wisconsin's Veronika Metanova have been named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference offensive and defensive players of the week for events of April 17-23, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Almquist (Hugo, Minnesota) broke her own school record for goals in a season when she scored five in the first half Sunday in the win over Southwestern. The junior now has 56, a figure that ranks second in the MWLC. She also had five the day before -- including four in the first 19:09 of play -- in the win over Beloit College that clinched a MWLC playoff berth for the Pipers.
Metanova (Palatine, Illinois) helped the Falcons to a pair of wins in MWLC play, which resulted in at least a share of the regular season title. The senior made numerous critical saves, 15 in all, during a victory over undefeated Illinois Institute of Technology. She also had six saves in a home victory over Concordia University Chicago. She also picked up a combined three ground balls in the two games.
